Dr. Taylor Nichols is a board-certified physician in both emergency medicine and addiction medicine, as well as a nationally recognized voice in health policy and patient advocacy with a deep commitment to health equity and systems-level change.
He completed his undergraduate degree in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Michigan, medical school at UC Davis School of Medicine, residency training in Emergency Medicine at UCSF-San Francisco General Hospital, fellowship training in Health Policy and Advocacy at UC Davis Medical Center, and received his Masters degree in Health Policy and Law from the combined program between UC Law SF and UCSF.
In his addiction medicine work, Dr. Nichols is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Transitions Addiction Medicine Group, medical director of Transitions Clinic of Sacramento, an Implementation Leader with CA Bridge, as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for Sacramento Street Medicine, and Volunteer Clinical Faculty at UC Davis Medical Center.
His policy and advocacy work was recognized by the American College of Emergency Physicians with the Policy Pioneer Award in 2025 and by the Young Physician Section of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine with the Humanism Award in 2025.
In his advocacy work, he is currently the member-at-large on the Board of Directors of Cal/AAEM and on the communications committee for ACEP. He has previously served on the Board of Directors of California ACEP, as a delegate to the California Medical Association, and on the Legislative and Advocacy Committee of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
When he is not seeing patients in clinic or the emergency department, he can be found snowboarding, surfing, mountain biking, backpacking, or coaching his children's sports teams.
